Meet the Team
Hey everyone, my name is Sumeet and I am the lead for this blog! I am currently a junior at River Valley high school and this is my first year as part of the YBOD. I first got into advocacy in my freshman year because I was passionate about uplifting my community, addressing issues, and initiating policy change. Aside from my advocacy work, I’m currently working on my triple minor where I will receive an associates in political science, history, and social & behavioral science. Some of my hobbies include reading, baking, and playing golf. I am also a big fan of matcha, I love making it the traditional way and drink it all the time. I’m very excited to share this blog with you all and watch it progress and grow!
Hi! My name is Grace, and I’m a junior at Cupertino High School and a first-year member of the CYAN Youth Board. I started working on advocacy three years ago through my county’s tobacco prevention coalition, Peer Advocate Advisory Council (PAAC) because I wanted to contribute to the wellbeing of my peers and help empower youth. I’m really interested in learning more about ways to restore the social justice issues surrounding the marketing of the tobacco industry and the research of diverse methods in which to help people quit using tobacco and vape products. I’m so excited to hear the stories and experiences of other youth voices on this blog! Outside of tobacco prevention advocacy, my biggest interests are robotics and debate, and I’m currently a part of my school’s FRC and Parliamentary teams! Some of my hobbies include listening to music, hiking, and trying new boba drinks (my current favorite is strawberry matcha!). I also enjoy traveling to other places and trying a variety of foods!
Hi, my name is Julia Choi, and I’m a junior at South High School. As one of the youth board directors of CYAN, I want to amplify the youths’ voices, so that the tobacco industry no longer acts as a threat to the public’s health. While working as an advocate, I also enjoy writing during my free time. As a result, I have helped co-create a literary magazine called “The Afterpast Review”, where we strive to empower women’s rights. Simultaneously, in school, I’m part of the Girl’s Golf Team and the Creative Writing Club. For this blog, I’m especially excited to share with everyone the behind the scenes of the CYAN board!
