CYAN, in partnership with the Health Services Association California Community College (HSACCC), is conducting two College Tobacco Cessation Trainings in February 2016.

About the Training

Morning Session
Three Hours
This session will cover basic tobacco cessation topics, and will be useful to individuals who are new to cessation or who are interested in refreshing their skills. Facilitated by Kim Homer Vagadori, CYAN.
• Description of tobacco use trends on campus
• New and emerging tobacco and nicotine products
• Tobacco cessation basics
• Motivational interviewing
• Online and telephone cessation resources

Afternoon Session
Two Hours
This session will cover pharmacology for tobacco cessation, and will be useful to prescribing medical providers as well as non-prescribing cessation providers. FDA-approved first-line prescription and over-the-counter smoking cessation medications will be covered. Facilitated by Dr. Gary Tedeschi, CA Smokers’ Helpline and UC San Diego.
• Components of successful tobacco cessation interventions
• Pharmacological aids used in tobacco cessation
• Tobacco cessation case studies
• Opportunity to ask an expert specific questions on tobacco cessation pharmacotherapy

Registration Information

There is no cost to attend this training. Registration will be open until January 22, 2016.

Five CEUs will be provided by HSACCC for Registered Nurses.
Five CEUs will be provided by CSU Long Beach for CHES/MCHES.

Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided.
