California State University Tobacco Use Policies

On April 7, 2017, Chancellor Timothy P. White of the California State University (CSU) system issued Executive Order 1108 making all 23 CSU campuses 100% tobacco-free. ¬†All campuses are to have their policies updated and implemented by September 1, 2017, at which point we will list each campus’ policy here.

Bakersfield 100% Tobacco-Free Effective September 1, 2017, all California State University campuses shall be 100% Smoke Free and Tobacco Free. Smoking, the use or sale of tobacco products, and the use of designated smoking areas are prohibited on all California Stae Univeristy properties. Members of the CSU community are expected to fully comply with the policy.

Dominguez Hills 25-Ft. Perimeter Smoking is prohibited within 25 feet of an exit, entrance, or operable window of any campus building.
East Bay Pending
Fresno 100% Tobacco-Free As of September 1, 2017, Fresno State, will be a smoke and tobacco-free campus. This policy has been adopted by all CSU campuses to improve the health and safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors. The use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, snuff, snus, water pipes, pipes, hookahs, chew, unregulated electronic nicotine delivery systems, and any other non-combustible tobacco products will be prohibited.
Fullerton 100% Smoke-Free Effective August 1, 2013, smoking is prohibited in all interior and exterior campus areas and locations. Smoking is defined as inhaling, exhaling, burning, or carrying a lighted cigarette, cigar, pipe, or other lighted smoking product, including electronic cigarettes. The sale or distribution of any tobacco product, including smokeless tobacco products, is also prohibited. Additionally, sponsorship of a university activity or event by a tobacco product manufacturer is prohibited unless explicitly authorized in writing by the university president or designee.
Humboldt 100% Tobacco-Free Humboldt State University will join other California State University campuses in becoming a smoke- and tobacco-free campus beginning September 1, 2017. The policy prohibits the use of cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other smoke emitting products, including e-cigarettes and vapor devices.
Long Beach 100% Tobacco-Free Smoking and the use of all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, are prohibited on campus.
Los Angeles 100% Tobacco-Free Effective September 1, 2017, all California State University campuses shall be 100% Smoke Free and Tobacco Free. Smoking, the use or sale of tobacco products, and the use of designated smoking areas are prohibited on all California State University properties. Members of the CSU community are expected to fully comply with the policy.
Maritime Academy 100% Tobacco-Free Effective September 1, 2017, all California State University campuses shall be 100% Smoke Free and Tobacco Free. Smoking, the use or sale of tobacco products, and the use of designated Page 2 of 4 Executive Order 1108 smoking areas are prohibited on all California State University properties. Members of the CSU community are expected to fully comply with the policy.
Monterey Bay Pending
Northridge 100% Tobacco-Free Smoking and the use of tobacco products, including electronic smoking devices, are prohibited on all areas of campus.

San Diego 100% Tobacco-Free Smoking and the use of tobacco is prohibited in all indoor and outdoor areas of campus including parking lots. Smoking is defined as inhaling, exhaling, burning, or carrying a lighted or vapor-producing tobacco product. The distribution of free samples of tobacco products, tobacco-related advertising, and sponsorship of college events is prohibited.
San Francisco Pending
San Jose 100% Tobacco-Free Smoking and the use of tobacco products, including electronic smoking devices, are prohibited on all areas of campus.
San Luis Obispo Pending
San Marcos 100% Tobacco-Free Effective August 28th, 2017, CSUSM is adopting a smoke and tobacco free campus policy, contributing to our commitment to be a respectful, safe and healthy learning and working environment for all our faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
Sonoma 100% Tobacco-Free Smoking and other uses of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes are prohibited on campus as well as at off campus sites under University ownership or control, and in vehicles owned, leased, or rented by the University.
