College Tobacco Cessation
How CYAN Supports College Tobacco Cessation

We recognize that cessation services are an integral part of successful and comprehensive campus tobacco policies, and we offer support in the following ways:
CYAN staff is committed to providing technical assistance and support to individuals, coalitions, and organizations advocating for tobacco-free colleges and universities in California. We offer a variety of technical assistance services to support local and statewide advocacy efforts including but not limited to the following:
- One-on-one support (in person or by phone)
- Staff and/or coalition trainings
- Assist with the development of cessation campaigns
- Provide support for developing tobacco cessation programs
- Presentation development
- Materials development
CYAN provides tobacco cessation training to staff and student tobacco cessation advocates. Trainings are offered both in person and via webinar. Please contact us to customize a training to fit the needs of your group.
We also offer the COUGH Cessation Student Advocates training, an online, self placed training opportunity for students interested in learning more about how they can promote tobacco cessation on campus. This training is offered on an ongoing basis, and is open to anyone who would like to learn more about basic tobacco cessation advocacy. Please contact us to request a password to access the training.
CYAN offers several types of resources to support tobacco cessation on college and university campuses. Visit our resources page to stay up-to-date on the latest college tobacco-related news in California and throughout the country. Access our college publications which range from materials to assist you in developing tobacco-free advocacy campaigns to guides with information on college-specific cessation resources.
We also maintain a collection of materials, such as signage, reminder cards, and other items produced at California colleges and universities. Please contact us if you would like to see examples of materials produced by other colleges.
Statewide Days of Action
Each year, CYAN supports two national days of action by sending participating campuses materials to support outreach efforts, and by placing ads in college newspapers and online in a coordinated media effort. Earth day is celebrated April 22nd, and The Great American Smokeout is celebrated on the third Thursday of November. Registration to participate in these events opens approximately one month before the event.
If your campus is hosting another type of outreach event, such as a health fair, please contact us to discuss ways we can support you event.
CYAN recognizes that campuses may need varying levels of support, and a diverse range of materials and resources. Please contact us to discuss your programmatic needs and to request assistance and/or support for your campus.
