CYAN Recruiting Youth Board of Directors for 2018-2019 Academic Year

California high school students advocating for smoke/tobacco-free communities are encouraged to apply for the 2018-2019 CYAN Youth Board of Directors (YBOD).  The CYAN YBOD is engaged in the planning of statewide youth activities and events focused on eliminating the impact of tobacco in California communities.  Youth seeking a statewide youth leadership opportunity are encouraged to apply.  More details as well as a link to an application can be found here.

Save the Date: Statewide Youth Advocacy Conference 2018

CYAN will be hosting the 2018 Statewide Youth Advocacy Conference on June 24-27, 2018 in Nevada City, CA. This conference will strengthen youth engagement in local tobacco control advocacy efforts by providing young people with training on a variety of skills and topics related to o coalition development, public speaking, and working with decision makers.  More details and registration information will be made available soon.

New Educational Materials for Youth and Young Adults

CYAN has developed new print educational materials for youth and young adults on blunts, smokeless tobacco, and cigars (for military audiences).  These materials are currently available at no cost to tobacco control programs, colleges and universities, health clinics, and military installations working with young people.  Additionally, a fact card on the environmental impact of tobacco waste and rationale for smoke/tobacco-free college policies was created. Freeing Veterans from Tobacco Toolkit Now Available

Project UNIFORM has developed a Toolkit to assist programs and clinics serving Veteran populations in creating or strengthening tobacco treatment programs. The toolkit is available for download on the Project UNIFORM website or CYAN can send California providers a printed and bound copy.

2017 California College and University Smoke/Tobacco-Free Policy Report Card

The 2017 Report Card has been released with positive news for California colleges and universities.  Since the release of the first Report Card in 2016, California has seen an increase in the number of public colleges with 100% smoke or tobacco-free policies from 38% to 51%.  More information and findings from the Report Card are available here.
